How To Use Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet ?

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is an anti-ulcer medicine. It is used to treat various stomach and intestinal conditions that may occur due to excess production of acid.

These conditions include peptic ulcers (open sores on the walls of the stomach, small intestine, and food pipe), erosive esophagitis (swelling of the food pipe), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (a condition where the stomach acid flows back into the food pipe).

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet reduces excess acid production in your stomach and relieves the symptoms such as heartburn, inability to swallow food, stomach pain, and vomiting.

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet shows side effects like nausea, Vomiting, headache, stomach pain, watery stools, and dizziness.

These side effects are mild and subside by themselves. Consult your doctor if these side effects worsen or last for a long time. Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet should be taken preferably one hour before a meal.

The dosage and duration of taking this medication will be decided by your doctor. If you take Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet for heartburn, it may take 1–2 days to control your symptoms.

However, if your condition does not improve in a few days, consult your doctor to know the underlying reason.

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet should not be used if you are allergic to it. It is not recommended for use in children below 5 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have liver and bone problems.

If you take Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet for a longer duration, use it with caution as it may decrease the magnesium level in your body and/or increase the risk of bone fracture. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

These occur when excess acid produced in the stomach damage the protective layer of the stomach and small intestine. Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is used to treat ulcers of the stomach and small intestine.
  • Gastroesophagal Reflux DiseaseGastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a disease that occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe. Heartburn, difficulty swallowing, regurgitation (food, liquid, or stomach acid flows back up from the stomach and into the mouth) are the main symptoms of GERD. Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet helps in the treatment of GERD by decreasing stomach acid production.
  • Erosive EsophagitisErosive esophagitis is irritation and swelling of the lining of the tube that carries food from the throat to the stomach. It occurs when excess acid in the stomach flows back into the food pipe, irritating and damaging the food pipe. Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is used to treat erosive esophagitis by decreasing stomach acid production.
  • Zollinger-Ellison SyndromeZollinger-Ellison Syndrome is a condition in which tumours are formed in the pancreas (an organ located behind the stomach) and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). These tumours produce a chemical that in turn causes excessive acid production in the stomach. Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is used to reduce the excessive amount of acid produced in the stomach due to tumours.

When not to use?

Allergy

Avoid Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have a history of allergy to this medication. If you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching anywhere on your body, breathing difficulty, swelling of the face, tongue, throat, etc., seek medical attention immediately.

Warnings

Warnings for special population

Pregnancy

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is usually not recommended in pregnant women as there are no adequate data on human studies. Hence, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet may pass into breastmilk. An alternate medicine may be prescribed, especially while nursing your newborn or preterm infant. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding.

General warnings

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Long-term treatment (e.g., more than 3 years) with Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet may decrease the absorption of Vitamin B12 in your body. Your doctor may prescribe vitamin B12 supplements or suggest a lower dose of this medicine if vitamin B12 deficiency is suspected.

Lupus erythematosus

Lupus erythematosus is a condition that affects your skin, kidneys, brain, joints, and other organs. It occurs when the immune system of your body attacks its own tissues. Lupus may occur or gets worse while using Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet. Inform your doctor immediately if you experience tiredness, painful joints, rashes, or lesions on the skin while using this medicine.

Hypomagnesemia

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet may decrease the magnesium levels in your blood (hypomagnesemia) when used for a long time. Inform your doctor if you experience any symptoms such as dizziness, irregular heartbeat, shivering, muscle pain, seizures (fits), etc. You may be advised to check magnesium levels in your blood at regular intervals. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Driving or operating a machine

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet may cause dizziness or visual disturbances. Hence, avoid driving vehicles and operating heavy machines after taking this medicine unless you know how this medicine affects you.

Use in children

Pentaloc 40 MG Tablet is not recommended in children below 5 years of age. It may be used in children above five years of age for short-term treatment (for up to 8 weeks).
